Martinsville, Ohio | I think that is the best story I have heard on here a long while! I thought about doing that years ago but didn't want to be married to my cows, animal husbandry. I have one neighbor who I admire who milks 50, my age and was a bachelor. He told me he was tired of milking and ready to get out. One day a new lady started picking up his milk, she was divorced with one little girl and the next thing you know Marvin is married and keeping more heifers.
A well run small dairy is about as sustainable as any farm operation you can put together. Marvin has the best double crop corn after wheat this year I ever saw.
Best wishes to your son and to you, of course! The dairyman needs a good team around him.
I remember dad waiting for that milk check and milking 14 head by hand with him.
