1983 was a hot, dry year here, too, but across the central region the summer months only averaged -1.19 on the PDSI. That places it in the Near Normal category -- comparable to, say, 1999. That was a dry year for us and we had a low yield but it did not meet the definition I used for a drought year. As I said, the term is somewhat lacking in specificity and no doubt some areas of the central region had it worse than others in any particular year.
