Faunsdale, AL | Annual ryegrass would be your best bet to broadcast onto disked ground. Spreading it blended with lime or fertilizer will work if you use very narrow spacing between tracks. Some folks use a small spin spreader on the back of a tractor or 4 wheeler to put it out instead of the larger fertilizer body. The seed is so light it's hard to spread it very wide, so the tendency is to end up with streaks if you're used to spreading fertilizer and don't change how you drive.
If you want to get a stand for sure, drill it or drill cereal rye etc. The ryegrass will germinate and grow just fine as long as it is touching soil and gets moisture when it needs it. Sometimes it just doesn't ge the moisture when it needs it or dries out again before it gets enough root. | |
