| I farm in Southern Indiana but I am also a representative of Optimizer. For the yield projection, it divides all soil types (according to the NRCS Soil Survey) into six different categories that each have different characteristics of water holding capacities, organic matter, CEC, etc. In the free text service, two fields from the center of the county are projected for yield and their limiting factor. For the paid service (<$2.00/ac) a growers fields are used. The data compares soil type variables, weather for that region, planting date/hybrid, N application rates/timing, and local practices for that region. Tough to explain in writing, but the research has shown 78% accuracy within 5bu and full accuracy within 10bu. Other variables that have limited that from being 100% include tile mgmt, compaction, etc. For the price/ac, it's a great mgmt tool. | |
