Subject: RE: Drip Tape irrigation

Alentejo, Portugal
I have been looking at the same system for irrigating corn. But they say that the seed needs to germinate by itself because you can only put in the tapes in crop allready like 15 to 20 cm high. If you do it sooner, the wind will blow them away. I do not no if that applies to your application or not. (I guess in a greenhouse for example you wouldn´t have that issue.) In corn that is 75 cm apart they use 1 tape for 2 rows, so I guess that explains how wide the water goes by itself. There are different spacings and different sizes of outlets. Maybe there will be some way to fix the tapes to the ground? Here in Portugal they use them a lot for tomatoes, strawberries, melons, grape, olive trees etc. Also in corn though. If you use water from a lake or a waterway you need a good filter, groundwater can go in unfiltered most of the time...
