Some browers will do it automatically, others will not.  Use the HTML editor and look for the "chain link" icon.

• Highlight the text that you want to make the link.
• Click the chain link icon and paste the url in the popup window.
• Select the open in a new frame or window choice to make the link open in a new tab.
