| I am not a fan for a couple of reasons:
1. The way they are set up - most of the ones I see have a check strip at each location, but not mutliple check strips across the locations. I strict strip trail with no checks across it can be very misleading. There are just way too many factors that can influece the results. This is somewhat negated by having multiple locations, but still not ideal.
2. You can have a bunch of companies with a corn hybrid in the top ten, however it may actually be the same corn hybrid or two just in different bags. There will be no way of knowing unless they publish the variety numbers in the plot results which I have not seen them do.
That being said the FIRST plots do have some value and can help point out some trends, but I think some people give them way too much credit just because they are "independent." The best test always has and always will be test you do on your own farm free from the influence of the seed industry. | |
