I set ours so that when I was coming into the headland it planted right up to the rows and when leaving the headland it left a gap. I aimed for a roughly 30-36" gap. The gap got a little big on me in some fields even though I tried to go the same speed all the time. It looked to me like if the screen wasn't projecting the planter perfectly straight it made a difference too. This is using half width disconnects and a rate controller. Perhaps the half widths have a different reaction at times but I think it was simply screen projection.
You may ask WHY I set it up that way..... In the past couple years we've had a heck of a time finding guess rows come harvest time and I felt this would make it easier to find them and to enter the right row all the time on the ends. It will look a little odd for a couple weeks but I can deal with it.
