Subject: 335/1250 24 Planter--Guidance

Savannah, MO
Customer has a 335 magnum and is pulling a 1250 24 Row Planter (new this year). The guidance portion of this tractor really has never worked that well; tillage, gas, planting. Before he started planting corn we replaced the Nav II thinking it had a bad gyro. We are running Omnistar HP (2-3" accuracy p/p). This spring we calibrated the tractor more times than I can remember. We finally got it to where it would consistently come back to it's center point. We hooked it back to the planter and as long as you were in flat, level, ground it would track pretty decent (2-5" p/p). Customer has gone back to planting beans and, in fairly level, smooth, ground it's off anywhere up to 10 inches (this is being marked center of drawbar to center of drawbar on the tractor pass to pass).

I understand planter drift and that would be understandable if it was 10 inches from seed drop point to seed drop point, but it's marked from the center of the tractor. What could be causing this tractor to be that far off? When you look at the Cross Track Error on the Pro 600 it shows 1/2" to 3" tops for offline distance, but it's obviously off way more than that.

Any help is appreciated.
