From the ArcticCat manual, 2000 ATV 500 4x4 manual transmission. No mention of need for special synthetic oils, just plain old SAE 10w40. If you choose to run synthetic there's nothing wrong with that either. 3500 miles may not be a 'long term' trial in your eyes, but it's plenty long enough to cause problems if I was using the wrong oil. I can see the need for special oil in some of the Honda because they essentially operate as a hyrdrostatic tranny/motor combo but your everyday manual shift tranny in an ATV will run just fine on stock 4 stroke engine oil.
