Brinkley, Arkansas
This is the first time I've ever had to put the levee up. My grandfather put a small one up in 1973 and then a larger one in the early 80's. Both times the Corps missed their crest prediction by several feet. This time it appears they're going to be very close. When this is said and done it will be the 4th highest crest behind 1927, 1945, and 1916. If the predictions are correct 1916 will only be 0.4' higher than now. The record in 1927 will be 5.3' higher. I shudder to think what this country would look like with 5 more feet of water on top of this. I'm actually kind of lucky in all of this. I don't live in that house anymore, I'm only losing 325 acres of soybeans, and most of my farm is nowhere near this river. A lot of it is flooded right now but its rainfall that just can't get out fast enough with the high rivers.
