I finally decided there were no lights on the front of the laptop and after talking with Toshiba people they were certain it was the charger. Evidently it is more common than the battery going dead. Who knew?
Oh I have had several of these go bad over the years. Of course I put 60,000 miles on my laptop a year and probably gets plugged and unplugged 2-3x/day on average.
For goodness sakes though, get a multimeter and check if the power cord is putting out power. If you don't have one spring for the $5-8 at your local Chinese goods seller. I am certain it will not be the last time you will find a use for it.
Check the DC end if you are not getting power there, check the AC end if it unplugs from the transformer brick.
