Ah! we were good friends and the beetle wasn't near stock but still all VW. Interesting that off the line I'd take'em up to 45 but if we were all doing 65 I could hang with em to 90. So there we were VW a couple vettes a few BMW's and a porche here and there running the canyons. Suspensions what they were then going over 90 got you balled up against the mountain-side. The V-dub started to breathe at 62 mph so between 65 and 90 the speedo needle moved as fast a that on some tachometers; hard to believe maybe but true and wow is was fun.
