If that doesn't work I would try booting with a live Linux CD.

If you want to try that and don't know how I will post  step by step instructions.  I am assuming you have a CD burner AND some software such as NERO or ROXIO to burn a cd.  It would help know the brand of computer and the operating system if you need to try this.
