You don't have to. Upgrade to iTunes Plus and it removes all the DRM and you are free to move your music to whatever device you choose. You will have to pay a bit more to accomplish this, but keep in mind that Jobs FOUGHT that demand of the music industry and Plus is a result of the compromise.

As for this subscription service - this applies to digital magazines and newspapers. This has nothing to do with the other content in the iTunes Store. Media execs are PO'd that Apple wants a cut of their profits for listing their product in the Store, handling the bandwidth, marketing, and handling the credit card transactions. All the media companies have to do is upload it to Apple's servers. Gee, do they really expect Apple to do all this for free? Apparently so. They want to list their mags and papers in the Store for the same price as they offer it on their own websites and are now whining cause Apple wants to be paid for their part in getting content onto devices. App developers are paying Apple the same 30% as Apple is asking these media companies for - and iTunes Store is THE app store to be right now if you want to make money developing apps.
