Chebanse, IL..... | I picked up a WesternDigital portable 500 gb hd for video backups. I've used them for quite a while for this. Probably the best backup method I've found. But anyway, I didn't read the box (on sale) close enough the other day & when I unpackaged it, I see the cable end going into the portable hd was different. A tag on the supplied cable said "USB 3.0". The plug looks similar to a normal USB 2.0, but it certainly isn't compatible. So, now I have to keep that specific cord around for that HD, or buy additional cords for that purpose, as well as the 12,000 conventional "large end-small end" USB cords I have. The end of the cord attaching to the computer is conventional 2.0, so what good is the 3.0 on the other end? That's like bolting a Category 4 clevis hitch on a JD 4010 & hoping to pull a 17 shank JD 512 ripper because of it.
So, what's with the 3.0 thing? Is 2.0 now dead?
