windows mail came with Vista - not windows 7

in Windows Update a choice will be to download and install Windows Live Essentials (or you can go to the microsoft website to get it) .....

there are several components in Live Essentials, Live Mail, Photo Editing, Movie Making, Blog Writing, family Supervising, and maybe one or 2 more.... you can pick and choose which options you want.

Live Mail is the new replacement for Outlook Express, very similar, plus as in every new version of everything, many more options and buttons and a different look.
