Credit in part to bwire.  I found it in the Google search group inside of an article from http://www.brighthub.com/internet/google/articles/66090.aspx

I had tried most of the programs and a lot that weren't listed.  I noticed Kaspersky labs had a tool for removing the Google Redirect virus.  They have an excellent reputation and were listed as top choice by MaximumPC recently.

I downloaded it and ran it on the computer.  It fixed it. 

The redirect program takes the searches that Google shows and when you click on one of them you go to a page that is unrelated to the link you thought you were going to.  It makes search engines worthless.   It may do other things.

Download it and save it for yourself or anybody that you help.
