The Dorsets have been very popular because of the traits you describe; but the fact is that today most breeds - yes, including "pure breds" - are pretty much so interbred with other breeds you really can't depend on one breed to consistently show historical traits.
In my opinion, and experience, I'll agree with your friend and stick with white faced, in my own case Dorset, ewes for a good compromise on carcass, mothering, prolificacy and attitude. Black faced terminal sires are fine to take advantage of hybrid vigor, although I don't use them in my flock. | |
