Wireless, Ethernet or a modem into a USB port?
If it's USB:
It may be shutting down the USB as a power saving measure.
If you go into Control panel then hardware/sound >power options > edit settings | you can bring up a window for advanced power settings which allows you to set 'USB selective suspend options'.
I suspect you're right. It only does it when the machine goes into power saving mode. When it comes back up, it gives me a screen telling me the webpage cannot be displayed and immediately after that it is connected again.
