I disagree. Microsoft is dependent on what? Windows, Office, and Xbox.

Apple has close to 40 billion in cash - sitting in the bank. No debt. Stock analysts get the jitters if their farts smell different today than they did yesterday. In reality, Apple could easily absorb a flop of a product with no real harm to the company.

What Apple IS dependent on (way too much, IMO) is Steve Jobs. He is the guy that brought Apple out of the gutter and built it into what it is today. He is the brains behind most of the innovation coming from that company. If he dropped dead today, there is probably 1-2 years worth of products in the development pipeline that are attributed to Jobs. After that, nobody knows - but it would be difficult to find people with the vision that he has.
