Subject: Re: What are they benfits of a Yagi antenna

A Yagi is usually good for considerable distances because it depends on the power input. I have seen some used in UHF links between two transmitters that go for a few miles, but how I see them used mainly are on airports transmitting from one location near the runway to another location near the terminal. In one application I've seen, the radios are less than 1 1/2 watts, and attenuators have to be used if the signal is too strong. They are best used in line-of-sight applications, but in one instance I saw the antennas pointing slightly upward to shoot over a hangar. Both of these were using radios at 410MHZ. I believe you would have to get the antenna for your specific frequency range for it to work best.

Edited to add: Given you are buying Yagi's, you should find them at a place where they know what they will do. Let them know what you are planning, and what your power input will be, and they can tell you if it will work, and if you might need an attenuator.
