Subject: Cleaning up hard drive for grandkids

Central Kansas
I have purchased an iMac and will retire my old 2003 Dell desktop. It has a 30 G hard drive and is about 70% full. I will move files I need to an external hard drive and try to deal with transferring WordPerfect and Word documents to the Apple. I would like to keep a few programs for the grandkids, but essentially want to clean up the hard drive.

Question: do I go into the control panel and open the program list, and then uninstall the ones I don't want to leave on there (Weatherbug, WordPerfect, Quicken, etc.) and then defrag the hard drive? I guess the other option is to use some software to do that....I value your input on this issue.
