One thing I noticed in the operators manual for my Toyota Prius hybrid,. It says that it maintains charge in the Ni-MH (nickle metal hydride) battery between 20% and 80% charge, never less, never more. They claim this will make the battery last almost indefinatly.

I know when I recharge those little AA Ni-MH batteries for my camera, they generate a lot of heat when they approch full charge.
