At 1.5GB I think you will want to start thinking about archiving. If you keep the archive files in a handy folder, you can always open the archive .pst in outlook and search it, etc. This is what I do. I have not experienced it, but have been told that as the .pst gets too large it will slow down Outlook and cause problems, and increase the chances of the .pst of getting corrupted.

The other thing I find is that since I sync my data every AM and PM when I am in my office, it syncs much faster if it only has to sync the smaller current file, since the archive .pst's don't change. I would think with any backup system, it would be easier to just backup a smaller current file and burn off the archives only once per year. You might start with <2005 and see how easy it is to load the archives to search, etc.

But excellent point you make....BACK UP FIRST!
