There is not a "docking station" for macbooks. The way that they are cooled through the port at the top of the keyboard at the hinge is designed to keep the machine cool only if the screen is open. So you have the potential to burn up your machine if you keep the lid closed when you have the computer on. I looked for one and this is what I found out. The mac automatically sees that you connected an external monitor and "refreshes" the screen and allows the external monitor to work, so a restart is not necessary. Anymore questions just ask.
