Why should they change? Too wet and too dry corn are money makers. The only reason would be if it became difficult to source corn because elevator B down the road was getting all the business because they were doing it and I don't really see that happening. I'm as guilty as anybody for looking at price and distance to haul almost exclusively and assuming the grade will be about the same everywhere. After all I have good dry corn. Then you start pulling centers and it's 16.5. Get down to the sweep and it's 13.8. I try to blend but I don't have a fancy system where I can easily pull corn from anywhere. Blending on paper would sure make things easier and fairer. Another thing is my moisture tester doesn't usually agree with the buyer's. Imagine how nice it would be to be 15000 bushels into a 20000 bushel contract and see that your average is 15.2 and think " I'll need to get the last loads from the emptier bin that's a little dryer". No screwing around.
