I like the contour map the best.
I could see all the sandy areas in the field that yielded the best because of the huge amount of rain we had last July and August.
This year could be dry and the yield map could look the opposite.
We have one farm in particular that has varying soil types.
It goes from almost beach sand to black muck and heavy clay.
Even though it is systematically tiled the clay can seal off at the surface and almost kill the crop in the low spots.
Because of this the soil tests show that the fertility levels in those areas are through the roof.
I like a fertilizer spreader that can be shut off in those spots.
But I know they are there because of soil tests, not yield maps. | |
