Subject: Dry zone from 2022.. still trying to recover.. add wind.

Care to expand on how moisture can “pass” through the root zone? Were you completely soaked up and above field capacity or did your crops take up the moisture in the root zone? Soil moisture doesn’t just pass form the root zone down below it. Gravity isn’t that strong to pull moisture away from soil particles so how did you loose all your root zone moisture?

I haven't cared to take the time to respond to this.. but a picture is worth 1,000 words.  We had only 67% of normal precipitation in 2022.. 17.49 inches.. In 2023.. 25 miles south of where this was taken they destroyed wheat for lack of moisture..  the second half of 23 starting around July 4th we participated in monsoonal rains.. of light mistings.. for the year of 2023 only 4 days did we get rain over an inch.. but several.. 0.10", 0.18" mistings which did help sustain croos.. but not really enough to drive past foliage to rebuild subsonic moisture.

We're up to 1.78" so far for 2024.

It's pretty sandy but decently good for here.. in 2022 irrigated yields ranged from 100 bu or less.. to.. just over 200.. this field made.. like 168.. but we pumped alot.. to do it.

There is some moisture.. as we are stripping in fertilizer.. but we'll probably have to pre water to establish a stand.. there is a cover crop.. which has aided in holding the soil.. but also sapped surface moisture.  I'm not sure if we could get dryland to germinate.. but we should get something to help out.. at least it's forecast.. however as you can see.. its dry.

We have chances for rain this week which are desperately needed.. the wheat is turning blue in yesterday's temperatures and we're suppose to hit 80 today.  Yes the first picture is taken at the Headland in a tire track.. but still the field is clinging to moisture.. the soil profile is extremely dry.

Happy Easter.
