We have done it with wheat and rye. Jd 750 NT drill. Plant as soon as its dry enough to go in a normal year. Rye pops back up with little damage. If it gets dry letting the rye grow too long will kill the alfalfa. Normally spray the rye off after a couple weeks. With enough moisture you can make forage from the rye. We never tried to get to grain.
