If you’re just getting started I would not jump right in. Read some of the suggestions above to get a feel for how it works before doing anything. A lot of suggestions saying buy this, buy that, buy VOO, etc. The first thing is knowing what all that even means. Maybe do a search for something like step by step for first time investors and see what comes up.
If nothing else, sit down with an advisor and state your goals, how much risk you want to take, and timeframe and let them walk you through it. It’s your hard earned money, do all the research you need to feel comfortable enough before doing anything.
