Where are you at now? What part of MO?
I find on better soil, the cows eat more mineral. Poor soil, they seem to eat less. Ben is right about dilution. Fescue is such a dominant forage here, just about any running age cow is accustomed to it. By selecting the best performing cows, a person would naturally be selecting for cows that can handle fescue. I wouldn't source cattle from too.far away.
