SE South Dakota | Yup, picking corn was one job and shelling was another job. Now days combining corn is both jobs!
A corn shelling memory from my youth was shelling corn from a wooden crib on the farm. A neighboring farmer much older than myself and I were in the crib raking corn down to the drag when he taps me on the shoulder and points to a rat sitting there, right behind me. Something I never will be able to forget! He thought it was funny.
Don't remember if it was cold or not that day but it probably was cold. Or very hot?? It always was one or the other.
