New London, Wisconsin | Back in the early 70's we were northbound on Highway 41 at about Fond du Lac at night and the whole sky lit up an erie green color. It was definitely not northern lights. It was instantly bright, then about 30 seconds later, instantly dark again. This was not just local, but it illuminated the area so well that you could see as far at night as you could in daylight. I watched the news to see what had caused it but there was no mention of it. I never did figure out what it was. I assumed it may have been a meteor burning up above us.
