Just get it covered, doesn’t need to be more than an inch or two. What you are doing is blocking the sun from hitting it as much as you are soaking up odor. The sun heating the pile causes a lot of smell, and a gentle or no breeze can make it travel.

If you do it right and are quick about it, everyone thinks it’s all lime.
