EC SoDak | My area hit its dry period before NW Iowa did, I rode the drought line for a little while. Hwy 14 and for whatever distance north caught a 1-2.5" rain the beginning of July that I and south did not. Provided I had caught that rain, I'd probably be calling for record crops on my farm. Instead, lighter dirt got too dry and resulted in some 4-6' corn. The general difference was it started raining again here mid July, whereas a lot of that NW IA area had to wait a while longer.
But yes, you're correct. As the season progressed, Iowa ended up having it much worse than I up to this point. I lucked out.
