South Central Iowa | Part of why it is hard is people who want a fundamental reason for every move every day blame things on the weather if there is not a convenient excuse like exports or dollar impacts. It is especially easy for them to blame South American weather because no one here can be certain what it is doing down there. It doesn't require a fundamental reason to move every day; especially in the winter.
It is not currently moving off South American weather; rolling out of a major contract in the March is having a bigger impact than that. In general though, it is moving because people want to make money. They make money by taking a position with the prospect of it becoming profitable and every day a majority either choose to buy or sell more than the other and it moves up or down. Some days a fundamental reason explains part of it, most days it moves off of a litany of technical theories. Its final destination is heavily influenced by fundamentals but they explain only a small portion of what it does on the way there.
The guy from Successful Farming just has to write a note every day. I feel sorry for him. There isn't that much news.
