Seed in particular, when all the competition has to sign a licensing fee to one company, you're backed in the corner a bit. With beans, Roundup isn't working as well any more. Xtend was developed to keep bean seed margins up, in turn, keeping us from using conventional seed.
Ultimately, if many farmers decided against xtend beans or BT corn, they'd lower their price. However, since many are willing to pay for it, they have no incentive to drop price. Tvs are cheaper because Walmart brand $700 tvs sitting next to a $1500 Visio, the Visio doesn't sell well. Now $700 vs $900, brand appeal comes more into play. | |
