Western-Central Lower Michigan | Its a bit of a gradual process, but start a new email account at Gmail.com. Better yet get 2 of them. One for just friends and family, the other for business and offical stuff.
It may take 6months or more to wean everyone and all your contacts and so on off AOL. Even then, keep checking the old account for good email, so you can catch the one or two who just cant get the change or you forgot to tell.
I had an oddball email, and went to 2 Gmail accounts. Im thinking of starting a third account.
FWIW, a program called Thunderbird can check multiple email's and helps to keep things organized. Biggest trick is to quit saving all those email's that you just cant delete or may need to go back to.
They will bury you if you do that.
