Subject: RE: sugar cane aphid resistance ???

The biggest problem is NOT the honeydew and plugging, believe it or not. Even though that is a real pain. The biggest problem is that if they get in bad enough, early enough the yield loss is 100%. I have a couple small areas that were missed with the sprayer for one reason or another. There is no grain there, and the plants are flat on the ground dead.

As far as the tolerance, that was also my question. If a "tolerant" variety still has the aphids, just not as bad, or not as much damage, there is still the problem of the honeydew at harvest. Also, the honeydew will cause the purple mold on leaves and kill them. Do tolerant varieties not get the mold?
