I like my worm-drive Makita for its power and toughness, but I have to admit it is a heavy unbalanced pig. A 35 year old tiny little Skil-saw does most of my carpentry, and the heavy pig just gets the @#$% jobs. I'd say go with a nicely balanced unit over one that will still be cutting for your grand kids. $.02
