Problem being folks have been told their home is an investment. If it's an investment it's a piss poor one. Very few if any Americans have ever sold their home for more than it cost them in interest, repairs, taxes, and inflation adjustment. At best we might get lucky and break even.
Agree ,there is exceptions but it is just wrong for realtors to push housing as a retirement fund and HGTV having people spend xxx dollars on renovations and rent out an apartment in city too help pay for it. Renting houses out ain't fun. On the "retirement/downsize/buy cheaper house deal not many people ever to that
