| Some years ago, a local neighbor died just as we were beginning wheat harvest. A pretty good group of neighbors got together the very next day to go harvest the crop on a particular farm which was rented from a bank trust. One BTO neighbor was conspicously absent. Turned out THAT guy was off visiting the bank, renting the land.
I farm some "family" land, including some that my sister and I jointly own. A few years back, a local guy contacted my Sister to mention that if she wanted someone else to farm HER portion of the farm, he'd surely be interested......
The problem is that this sort of activity WORKS. You don't like it, and I don't like it, but it works often enough to continue to encourage them.
Actually, I'd like to pick up some rental land, too, and have become a BIT more aggressive in the search.....I'm afraid it's the "new normal". showboat | |
