| To answer your question.... Yes and no. I have heard very good agronomist (my opinion) say that after the 2 and consecutive corn crop the soil starts 'giving' (mineralizing) more N. Corn being a carbon heavy crop needs N to break down the carbon. The second consecutive corn crop often is N deficit because the microbes in the soil are using the N to digest the carbon. The N is released back to the soil for use by the plant but often too late in a corn plant's growing cycle. By year three there is a continual release on N by the soil and the N deficiency is not as severe.
Bottom line it takes management!
