Subject: RE: 15 in rows for silage corn?

West Central Illinois

We did a 15 vs. 30 in. row trial this year -- strictly for grain yield. 8 out of 10 varieties we compared yielded higher in 15 in. rows. They averaged about 7 bu. better. The entire plot was running in the 220 to 230 bu. range. So, not a huge increase in grain, but I'd guarantee there was a lot more stalk.

I know next to nothing about silage. But assuming the tonnage goes up but grain portion becomes a lower percent, is there a cost effective way to balance your ration with some supplement?
