I don't think it would be worth the effort to rebuild one, unless you could get the spreader for free.  A new '12 Doyle was in the low $20k range and is a good spreader with a good pattern.

As to why more don't spend some coins on lime, IDK.  My area is much the same as you, lots of fields need a ton or two, and it makes A LOT of difference.



For a highly speculative venture I don't think I'd be wanting to spend more than 10K, and I can't find used spreaders for sale around me. Pretty much most of my equipment is rebuilt stuff that is heavily customized. Who knows what I might be able to find in the junkyards. The best junk I might be able to find is an old mild steel floater spreader which has a blown engine or something. Pretty much scrap metal price.
