I had same problem on 1970 4020. I put a straight edge on thermostat housing and saw in was off. Then I laid a sheet of sand paper flat on a machine table..in this case in was the flat table top off a marvel bad saw, then rubbed the thermostat hosing across sandpaper by hand until it was flat. I was kind of surprised how much it was off.put it back together with gasket and a little permatex high tack gasket sealant. That was 2 years ago, never leaked since.
Done that trick for years, Scott.
