Subject: RE: John Deere 4020 Thermostats Leaking

I used up the local supply of water pump gaskets getting problems with water pump leaks. I went to thicker gasket material and cut my own and it hasn't leaked since. My problems were mostly broken seals when assembling the pump, but I wanted a new gasket for each time I put the pump on. The last time I clamped the pump to the uncut gasket material to a flat steel plate for about three days and kept it filled with water to see if the pump or the gasket leaked. That smashed an outline in the gasket material so cutting the gasket was easy. The new gasket material probably was twice as thick as the Deere gaskets.
