That's never made sense to me. Those values make assumptions that may not suit you for example it might not allow for nutrients leeching out after a rain or leaves shattering off and falling on the ground. Also, I "believe" that hay grown on more fertile ground might take up more nutrients/ton of DM I have nothing to back that up, but it's a theory I'm working on.

To me, it makes more sense to do an analysis of the hay and use that for your removal rate. I was shocked at how little nutrients are in wheat straw when I did an analysis. If you believe the scientists, you would think it' made of gold.
