I usually plant for grazing after wheat but I feel I get more tonnage with a mix. You may want to check into millet/sudan grass with extra N. As far as planters, I use a drill but do not see anything wrong with a splitrow planter if you can get the planter calibrated.
You will get the most tonnage if planted 30 days ago..:-) BTW My seed is sitting nice and dry in a probox in my machine shed. :-(
